The Devil's Punchbowl
The Devil's Punchbowl
A big day out starting from Richmond Park, head south through the suburbs and you're into Surrey before you know it, where the traffic thins and the roads tilt upward.
The Punchbowl itself sits at the high point of the route, a proper natural amphitheatre carved into the heathland above Hindhead. Stop for coffee at the National Trust café and take in the view before the long haul home. After that it's Whitedown and a series of testing climbs before you earn the descent back toward the A3 and London.
At 145km and almost 1,700m of climbing, this is one for when the legs are feeling fresh.
